Super Shot Partners with Walgreens to Offer FREE Adult Flu ShotsThursday, December 11, 2014
Super Shot recognizes National Influenza Vaccination Week from December 7 through December 13. The organization wants everyone to know the importance of flu vaccination as it relates to various populations such as parents, children, healthcare workers, childcare providers, the elderly and people with chronic conditions.
Each year an average of 20,000 children under the age of 5 are hospitalized because of influenza complications. During the 2013-2014 influenza season, as many as 109 children died. Since the flu began spreading across the nation this October and November, five children have already died. Since it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop that protect against the flu virus infection, it’s imperative that parents take steps now to get themselves and their families vaccinated before they are exposed.
Throughout December 2014, Super Shot has partnered with Walgreens to administer FREE adult flu shots at all Super Shot clinics (except the First Care Clinic, where the adult flu shots are offered for $20). This FREE collaboration is ONLY for adults.
Flu vaccine and Mist are currently available at all clinic sites for children. Parents are required to bring their child’s shot record. As usual, no appointments are necessary. Children under six months old are too young to be vaccinated; the best way to protect them is for household members and caregivers to receive the vaccination.
