Please be advised that the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health is only offering H1N1 nasal spray vaccine at its Carew Medical Park clinic. The H1N1 injectable vaccine that arrived Tuesday is being given to healthcare providers to vaccinate pregnant women, chronically ill children and healthcare workers and is not available at the public vaccination clinic. People in high-risk groups such as pregnant women and children ages 5 to 18 with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and asthma should contact their health care provider to see if they are eligible for the injectable vaccine. Hospitals and urgent care clinics are also getting a limited amount of vaccine to give to their staff. A list of area providers who have received the injectable vaccine will be posted on www.FightTheFlu.org. The nasal spray vaccine is available to healthy children and young adults and for people who live with or provide care to infants less than 6 months of age. A person cannot receive this vaccine if he or she has asthma or is sick with nasal congestion. No one older than 49 years of age can receive this vaccine. The clinic is open today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while supplies last. If there is sufficient vaccine, the clinic will be open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
