Children up through 4 years of age can get the H1N1 injectable vaccine starting Friday at the Carew Medical Park. The clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while supplies last. No appointment is necessary. The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health received approximately 3,100 doses of H1N1 injectable vaccine and approximately 1,000 doses of H1N1 nasal spray vaccine today. Some of vaccine will be giving to local healthcare providers to vaccinate their staff and high risk patients and some will be given out to the public at the Carew clinic. For now, the H1N1 injectable vaccine offered at Carew will be reserved for children ages six months to 4 years of age. The department will also continue to offer the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine while supplies last for healthy children and young adults and for people who live with or provide care to infants less than six months of age. Children or adults with asthma or nasal congestion cannot get this vaccine. No one older than 49 years of age can receive this vaccine. The vaccines are free to the public. Children under age 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. More than 3,600 people have been vaccinated for H1N1 flu since the clinic opened on Oct. 9.
