Can humans catch avian influenza from wild birds? |
According to state and federal wildlife
agencies, there are no documented cases of wild birds directly
transmitting H5N1 to people. At the present time, the
only documented cases of transmission of H5N1 to humans are from close
contact with infected poultry.
However, a recent study in Iowa suggests that direct transmission of
avian flu viruses from wild birds to humans can occur.
